Blue Cat (Free Pattern)

Last post before Christmas! Here I should do something Christmassy like a reindeer or Santa or something. But when have I ever managed to make a holiday themed amigurumi in the past? Maybe that should go down with knitting as my New Years Resolution…

Anyway, this week I have for you a pattern for yet another cat!

I was going to try something Christmassy, but then I remembered that a friend I am seeing over Christmas has her birthday in January and has requested a cat. She’d actually requested a specific one but can I heck as find the book the pattern is in, so I whipped up an Amiguruthi original for her instead.

Free pattern after the jump.

The Essentials:

Hook: 3.5mm (E)

Wool: DK in blue or your colour choice.

Finished Size: approx 4″ tall.

Also needed: Small amount of pink and green embroidery thread (or colour of your choice).

Terms:

CH = Chain

SC = Single Crochet

INC = Increase

DEC = Decrease

FLO = Front Loops Only.

Head and body (all in one)

Magic ring / ch2

Round 1: 6sc into magic ring/ second chain from hook [6]
Round 2: INC around [12]
Round 3:{1sc, INC} around [18]
Round 4:{2sc, INC} around [24]
Round 5: Sc around FLO [24] (creates a flat bottom)
Round 6: Sc around [24] (back to both loops)
Round 7: {3sc, INC} around [30]
Round 8: {4sc, INC} around [36]
Round 9 – 10: Sc around [36]
Round 11: {4sc, DEC} around [30]
Round 12: {3sc, DEC} around [24]
Round 13 – 14: Sc around [24]
Round 14: {2sc, DEC} around [18]
Round 15 – 16: Sc around [18]
Round 17: {1sc, DEC} around [12]
Round 18: Sc around [12]
Round 19: INC around [24]
Round 20: {3sc, INC} around [30]
Round 21 – 23: Sc around [30]
Round 24: {3sc, DEC} around [24]
Round 25: DEC around [12]
Round 26: DEC around [6]

Finish off and work in the tail. This should give you a sort of flat bottomed skittle shape:

That’s the brunt of the work done – it’s all little bits from here!

Ears (x2)

Ch5

Row 1: 4sc [4] ch1 and turn
Row 2: DEC, DEC [2] Ch1 and turn
Row 3: DEC [1]

Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing. Make two and you should have:

ears

Simply sew them in place on either side of the head.

Now we need a

Tail

Ch21

Row 1: 20sc [20]

Finish off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Sew it in place at the base of your cat, and then curve the tail up your cats back and sew it at the top to keep the shape too. Like this:

See? If that’s unclear tell me and I’ll try illustrate it more clearly.

To finish, simply embroider a face, and tie some ribbon round your cats neck to add the extra definition between head and shoulders.

One blue cat, ready for whatever it is blue cats do.
