Dragon Amiguruthi (3)

Sew your head to the hole at the top if the body. Make sure the slightly pointed end of the head is forwards, and the chin and stomach want to be level, so it’s not quite 18 stitches to 18 stitches – the body cuts through the round of 12 stitches on the back of the head (basically the head tilts forwards a bit as shown).

Dragon Amiguruthi (8)

Sew either side of the head. I placed mine on the horizontal, but place as you like to give personality (just remember there’ll need to be space for the horns!).

Dragon Amiguruthi (9)

They should bend outwards slightly at the back.

Dragon Amiguruthi (12)

General Thumb reporting for duty sah!

Line up three of the fingers, and sew together leaving six stitches free on the outside fingers, and two stitches free at the top and bottom of the middle finger:

The ‘two on one side three on the other’ stitching will give a slight bend to the hand.

Continue on with the Hand (make 2)

SL ST the body colour working yarn through stitch 1 in the third finger

Round 5: Sc around all the fingers [16 (6 in third finger, 2 in middle, 6 in first, 2 in middle)]

Ignore that the numbers are a bit dodgily aligned!

Continue on with the Foot (make 2)

Round 12: Sc around [10]
STUFF
Round 13: DEC around [5]

Finish off and leave a long tail. Weave in the tail through to the top of the foot.

Dragon Amiguruthi (19)

Ooh that’s not the good foot! I stitched up the holes where I’d messed up the tension when crocheting.

Sew your foot to your hip. The inside edge of the hip should line up with the edge of the foot.

Dragon Amiguruthi (23)

Sew onto the butt of your dragon. Sew around most of the hip, then stuff lightly to give shape, and then finish sewing.

And there’s your dragon finished!

Dragon Amiguruthi (37) Dragon Amiguruthi (41)

As I mentioned last week, mine is a Gingerbread Dragon. He’s a competition entry in a private Facebook group I’m part of. We were challenged to amigurumify this little guy:

So I crocheted a little belly:

And added stripes to my horns:

And voila! Gingerbread Dragon.

I’d love to see how you personalise your dragons – just send me a pic on my Facebook page.
